1st Bn - Northern Ireland – Belfast Roulement Bn. 5 Feb Military Band return to Minden from Northern Ireland. 8 May battalion moved from Northern Ireland to Minden handed over to 3 LI. 15-15 June Block leave. 8-20 June Military band and Pipes and Drums tour Copenhagen and Oslo. July battalion training at Sennelager. July-Aug Block leave. Oct Drumhead Service. Oct-November B and D coys went to Batus, Canada (Med Man 7) with 4/7 Dragoon Guards. Oct-Dec JNCO’s Cadre. |

1st Bn - Elizabeth Bks, Minden. Jan-Feb battalion Cadre period. 14 Feb battalion received orders to take over from the spearhead Bn (1 RHF) in Northern Ireland on the 22 March. Feb battalion on Northern Ireland training. 20 March to late June battalion was in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Op Luff. A Coy were at the Maze under command of 7/10 UDR to man VCPs in East Belfast. B Coy were split between North Howard street and Girdwood. D Coy were at Fort Whiterock and Woodborne. SP Coy were at the Maze. 30 June battalion(Op Luff) handed over to 2 Para and returned to Minden. 8 July Lt.Col A W Blackett hands over as CO battalion to Lt.Col A K M Miller. 8-13 July Military Band and Pipes and Drums were at the International Military Band Festival, Modena, Italy. Aug WO1 (RSM) C J Webb took over as RSM from WO1(RSM) CM McFarlane. 12 Aug battalion return from block leave. Aug battalion went to Sennelager for 2 weeks to help train the Cheshire Battlegroup for their UN tour of Yugoslavia (Op Grapple). 11 Sept Minden Massed Bands display, B Coy battalion provided guard of honour. 19 Sept battalion on Ex “Bold Grouse” in Denmark. 22 Sept Maj-Gen Dennison-Smith, Commander 4 Armd Div visited battalion in Denmark. Sept A Coy battalion were at commemoration parade for the formation of ARRC (Allied Rapid Reaction Corps) at Bielefeld. 6 Oct The Military Band had its QuinQuennial Inspection by Brigadier Bond, Colonel Tomlinson and Capt Lamb (both ex band masters). 15 Oct Gen Sir Patrick Palmer visited the Bn. Oct Maj "Jocky" Bain took over as QM from Maj Alec Grant. 9 November Brig Cantley, Commander 11 Armd Brig paid battalion a farewell visit. Late 92 BAOR Mortar Concentration (Ex “Iron Classic II) at Munsterlager South, Sp Coy ran concentration and administration at Trauen Camp. 12 November Gen Sir Peter Graham visited battalion. By Christmas the last of the battalion's armoured vehicles had been back loaded. |

1st Bn - Elizabeth Bks, Minden. Jan-Feb battalion cadre period , Std 2, Mortar, A/Tank, JNCO, 1st Aid etc. 2 Feb Brig Alvin Hutchinson, Commander Hameln Garrison visited battalion. March battalion lose 11 officers and 17 soldiers under phase 2 redundancy. March battalion trained 1 PWO for OP Grapple. 11-12 March Col Clive Fairweather, Scot Div Col visited battalion. March The Argyll diced “Flash” was reintroduced for wear on combat dress. 25 March Brig Colin Groves, Brig Inf 1 (British attacked) Corps visited battalion. March Bn Field Firing at Sennelager. April battalion on leave. Late April battalion was told it was moving to Sir John Moore Bks at Folkestone and to be complete by September. Late April-May Aden Pln battalion (36 men) went to Bosnia to reinforce 1 PWO. 2-14 May battalion on Ex “Kilted Warrior” at Vogelsang. 7-9 May Maj-Gen Thomson visited battalion. 9 May battalion church parade at Vogelsang. June battalion at Battle group trainer at Sennelager. 23 June Maj-Gen Brian Dutton , Director of Infantry visited battalion. 25 June battalion farewell to Minden parade in Elizabeth Bks. 26 June battalion guard marches through Minden. 28 June Military Band were dined out in the Officers Mess, before it disbanded after the Edinburgh Tattoo. July battalion prepare Bks for handover to the Germans. July advance party moves to Folkstone. Aug on Block leave. 10 Sept last day in Elizabeth Bks. 27 Sept battalion complete at Sir John Moore Bks, Folkestone. End of Sept Military Band disbands. 4-29 Oct battalion cadres. 4 Oct Maj-Gen Mike Scott, Col Commandant the Scottish Division visited battalion. 19 Oct Brig Vere Hayes, Commandant 2 Inf Brig visited battalion. 25th Oct Maj-Gen DP Thomson visited the Regimental Boxing. 8-12 November battalion at BBGT at Catterick. 25 November Lt-Gen Sir Richard Swinburn, GOC Southern District visited battalion. 3 Dec Aden Pln rejoins the battalion from its attachment to 1 PWO. 11 Dec-8 Jan battalion on spearhead. |

1st Bn - Sir John Moore Bks, Folkestone. 3 Jan McEwan Cup. 10th Feb Raising the Regiment Day (Regiment 200 years old) HM Queen visited the battalion. 14-23 April Pre-Northern Ireland training. 6th May - 9th November Northern Ireland deployment, battalion in West Belfast, A Coy and TAC HQ at North Howard Street Mill. B and D Coys were at Fort Whiterock. Echelon at Musgrave Park Hospital. 11-21 November on Block leave. 16 -10 Jan on Block leave. |

Jan WO1 (RSM) H Ballantyne took over as RSM from WO1 (RSM) C J Webb. 13th Jan Lt Col A J N Graham MBE took over as CO battalion from Lt Col A K M Miller OBE. June battalion advance party and Balmoral Guard moved to Edinburgh. July TESSEX. July to October Royal Guard at Balmoral based on A Coy and Mortar Platoon. Aug remainder of Bn moved to Redford Bks, Edinburgh. 3rd to 8th Sept Visit of Russian Officers to Scotland. 25th Oct Balaklava Day Drumhead Service, first parade of Cruachan III. 30th Oct to 13th Dec JNCO’s Cadre. 3rd Nov Bn Skill at Arms Meeting at Barry Buddon. 30th Nov St Andrews Day Parade. Late Nov to mid Dec A Coy Night Fighting Trials. 7th Dec Bn Boxing Night. |

1st Bn - Redford Bks, Edinburgh. Bn on Public Duties. Feb/March Ex ‘Grand Prix III’ battalion on exercise in Kenya for 6 weeks. May ‘A’ Company plus a platoon from Support Company deployed to Canada on Ex ‘Medicine Man 5’. 1st July Presentation of New Colours at Redford Bks. 2nd July laying up of Old Colours at Stirling Castle. July to November reinforced infantry company (based on B Company) provided the Falkland Islands Garrison. Battalion provided the Guard of Honour at the ceremony to return the Stone of Destiny to Edinburgh Castle. Battalion started Northern Ireland training. |

1st Bn - Redford Bks, Edinburgh. Bn on Public Duties. 17 Jan Lt Col R N H A de V Wade took over as CO from Lt Col A J N Graham MBE. February battalion took over Province Reserve Battalion. May WO1 (RSM) J J Haughie took over as RSM from WO1 (RSM) H Ballantyne. 21st June Church Service for Lt-Colonel CC Mitchell and those who died in Aden held at Redford Barracks. Beginning of July the whole battalion was deployed to Northern Ireland for the Drumcree March. Battalion reached the final of the Army Football Cup. The battalion did very well in the Infantry Downhill Skiing Championships in Val d'lsere — becoming the Infantry Champions! |

1st Bn - Redford Bks, Edinburgh. Province Reserve Battalion. 8th January Cpl Stewart Marshall, Pte William Brown and Pte Steven Craw were killed whilst on duty in Northern Ireland when their landrover was in collision with a lorry. May Regimental Reunion held in Redford Barracks along with the Battalion Highland Games. July the whole battalion was deployed to Northern Ireland for the Drumcree March. Sept WO1 (RSM) D J McIntosh took over as RSM from WO1 (RSM) J J Haughie. October Pipe Major Motherwell became the Queen's Piper. In October Lt Horridge led the Cambrian Patrol team to a well deserved Bronze Medal. |

1st Bn - Redford Bks, Edinburgh. Province Reserve Battalion. Lt Col B W O Russell took over as CO from Lt Col R N H A de V Wade. 1st July provided the escort to the Crown for the State Opening of The Scottish Parliament. August battalion resumed public duties. D Company, provided the Tattoo Support throughout August as well as playing a major part in portraying 200 years of 93rd Sutherland Highlanders' history. August to October, B Company provided Her Majesty the Queen's Royal Guard at Balmoral. September Regimental Weekend at Stirling. Oct WO1 (RSM) C A Whitehead took over as RSM from WO1 (RSM) D J McIntosh. Support Company acted as trial troops for the Future Integrated Soldier Technology (FIST) trial. Exercise Native Trail in Belize, based on A Company, the exercise involved 137 members of the Battalion. |

1st Bn - Redford Bks, Edinburgh. Jan/Feb Exercise GRAND PRIX, Kenya. Feb to August battalion's role was as a home-based Northern Ireland Battalion. August battalion resumed public duties. Tattoo Support Company was based around A Company. August to October, D Company provided Her Majesty the Queen's Royal Guard at Balmoral. At the end of the year the Battalion carried out a couple of short exercises, one in the Galloway Forest and one in Catterick. |
